About Bedford Train Station

Bedfords main station opened in 1846 by the London & Birmingham Railway and was rebuilt in 1859 by the Midland Railway as a major junction.

It played vital roles in both World Wars for troop movements.

Electrified in 1983, it became a key Thameslink hub.

The 2023 redevelopment modernized facilities while preserving historical elements.

Today it serves as Bedfordshires primary rail gateway with East Midlands and Thameslink services.

Future East West Rail upgrades may further enhance its importance as a regional transport center bridging London and the Midlands.
