Merseyrail Trains

Merseyrail operates an electrified network with two main lines—the Northern Line and the Wirral Line—along with a short City Line section managed by Northern Rail.
The trains serve over 60 stations across Merseyside, with frequent services running from early morning until late evening.
Northern Line
The Northern Line connects Liverpool to key destinations in the north and south of the region. Major stops include:
- Southport – A popular seaside town with shopping and leisure attractions.
- Ormskirk – A market town providing connections to Lancashire.
- Kirkby – Links to nearby towns and bus services towards Wigan and Manchester.

Wirral Line

Though not directly managed by Merseyrail, the City Line connects Liverpool Lime Street to stations such as St Helens, Wigan and Manchester.
These services are integrated into Merseyrail’s ticketing system.

Although ticket offices and ticketing machines at most train stations sell Merseyrail train tickets, purchasing your Merseyrail train ticket online here is by far the simplest and usually a lot cheaper too.
